ZACHARY, LA – Mayor David McDavid has reportedly asked Zachary High School’s football team to lose Friday’s game against Central after learning a victory would require him to eat a steak prepared by Mayor Wade Evans.
The mayors agreed the losing city’s mayor would cook dry-aged ribeyes for the winner, an arrangement McDavid initially supported until Evans mentioned allowing three hours for grilling.
“Boys, I love this city,” Mayor McDavid told players during an unscheduled practice visit. “But that man asked whether I wanted my steak crispy on both sides if we won.”
McDavid reportedly presented coaches with photographs of previous Evans cookouts, including a ribeye guests initially mistook for the charcoal.
Zachary coaches have reluctantly installed several plays featuring backward passes and punts on first down.
McDavid also requested players avoid making the loss too obvious.
“I still have constituents,” he explained. “Just run whatever the Saints run.”
