Baton Rouge Declares First Day of Fall After Man Turns Off Truck’s AC for Almost Four Minutes

Eight seconds at a red light restored summer, but officials said the fall declaration would stand.

BATON ROUGE, LA – City officials formally recognized the arrival of fall Thursday after a local man reportedly turned off his truck’s air conditioner for nearly four consecutive minutes.

The seasonal milestone occurred while Denham Springs resident Gary Boudreaux traveled through Baton Rouge with both windows down, telling his wife, “Feels pretty good out here.”

Officials confirmed the statement was made voluntarily and without the truck being parked inside a car wash.

“This meets our threshold,” a city spokesperson said. “We generally need either one documented AC shutdown or somebody wearing a pullover without immediately taking it off.”

Boudreaux’s experiment ended at a red light on Airline Highway, where the absence of forward motion restored summer within approximately eight seconds.

Nevertheless, the city authorized residents to begin discussing gumbo, retrieving decorative pumpkins, and describing temperatures in the low 80s as “a little crisp.”

Boudreaux remains optimistic that long-sleeve weather could arrive before Christmas, provided he keeps moving.

Officials said winter would be declared once somebody needed the heater at lunch.
