BATON ROUGE, LA – A Baton Rouge family filed for bankruptcy Tuesday after their daughter’s dance team advanced to a competition round described by organizers as “an incredible opportunity.”
The parents reportedly celebrated for eleven seconds before receiving an email containing hotel requirements, costume fees and a mandatory $550 team jacket their daughter already owns in a slightly different purple.
“We’re so proud of her,” said her father, quietly changing his retirement age to “deceased.”
The next round requires four nights at a designated hotel, despite the competition taking place only on Saturday afternoon. Families must also purchase spectator passes to watch children whose training they financed.
Her mother has launched a fundraiser selling jambalaya plates, raffle tickets and several items her husband has not noticed missing.
The family’s bankruptcy attorney said their finances remain salvageable provided the girl performs poorly.
During rehearsals Tuesday, both parents lovingly encouraged their daughter to follow her dreams, preferably somewhere within driving distance.
