BATON ROUGE, LA – East Baton Rouge Parish School officials held a small celebratory press conference recently after the district reportedly reached seven consecutive days without a campus gun incident for the first time this year.
District leaders called the achievement “a promising sign” and credited what they described as “a combination of improved conditions, reduced student presence, and nearly all schools being completely locked and empty for summer break.”
“This is the kind of momentum we’ve been hoping to build,” one district administrator said while standing beside a banner reading “ONE WEEK STRONG.” “When students are not physically on campus, we’ve noticed a dramatic reduction in disciplinary situations.”
School officials say the district plans to study the trend carefully over the summer to determine whether “extended periods without children” could continue producing positive results into the fall semester.
Several parents applauded the milestone online, though some pointed out that school buildings have been vacant since graduation.
Others defended the celebration, arguing that EBR officials deserve recognition anytime they can make it through a full week without helicopters and SWAT circling a middle school.
The district reportedly plans to commemorate the achievement with a ceremonial balloon release and a limited-edition challenge coin for administrators who remained incident-free through the month of June.
