BATON ROUGE, LA – LSU extended Saturday night’s weather delay another 30 minutes after Tiger Stadium concession stands reported a concerning slowdown in beer sales.
Officials acknowledged radar had cleared and conditions were safe for football, but said nearly 14,000 cold beers remained unsold throughout the stadium.
“We’re not taking any unnecessary chances,” an LSU spokesman said. “There are still people in this stadium with cash in their pockets.”
LSU briefly considered allowing kickoff before Athletic Director Verge Ausberry reportedly noticed several concession stands still had fully stocked coolers.
Within minutes, officials announced another “concerning weather cell” had developed directly above sections selling $14 beer.
Fans were encouraged to remain patient and continue buying beer until conditions improved.
LSU said kickoff would be reevaluated once inventories reached acceptable levels.
University officials denied the delay was financially motivated before announcing all remaining weather concerns could be resolved immediately with the purchase of approximately 11,000 Michelob Ultras.
