Mandie Landry Takes Aim at AI in Campaigns, Says Only Human Lies Should Be Allowed

BATON ROUGE – In a move aimed at preserving what many describe as “the integrity of traditional political deception,” State Senator Mandie Landry has introduced legislation to criminalize the use of artificial intelligence in campaign ads without proper disclosure.

The bill would require campaigns to clearly label any AI-generated content, a measure Landry says is necessary to protect voters from messaging that is “too polished, too coherent, and frankly suspicious.”

“If voters are going to be misled, it should be by a real person who sat down and made the conscious decision to do it,” said one Capitol insider. “That’s how this system has always worked.”

Campaign operatives across the state have already begun adjusting, with many reportedly reintroducing typos, awkward phrasing, and confusing messaging back into ads to demonstrate their commitment to human authenticity.

Supporters of Rick Edmonds have raised concerns the law could be selectively enforced, particularly in races where messaging suddenly becomes “too effective to have been written by a human.”

Lawmakers confirmed the bill is part of a broader effort to ensure Louisiana campaigns remain as authentic, chaotic, and deeply unconvincing as voters have come to expect.
