BATON ROUGE, LA – The Capital Area Transit System announced this week that a proposed requirement to email a monthly bank statement is currently “not operationally possible,” citing a noticeable decline in employees who are both available and not under arrest.
According to officials, the task itself, which involves the strenuous task of downloading a file, attaching it to an email, and clicking send, would typically take less than a minute. However, leadership clarified that the issue is not the time required, but rather the limited number of staff members in a position to complete it.
“We’re not saying it’s difficult,” a spokesperson explained. “We’re saying it requires someone who can log in, access the account, and remain out of jail for the full duration of the process.”
The agency noted that several individuals previously familiar with the system are currently “unavailable,” creating a temporary gap in both institutional knowledge and legal standing.
Rep. Dixon McMakin noted the bill gives agencies a full 30 days to complete what he described as “three consecutive clicks,” adding he’s willing to amend it to include screenshots, arrows, and a brief orientation on how email and attachments work.
