NEW ORLEANS, LA – Just days after selecting New Orleans as a winner in his Tunnel Vision Challenge, Elon Musk confirmed Monday that colonizing Mars will remain “significantly more achievable” than securing approval to build a tunnel in the city.
Musk reportedly reached the conclusion midway through his first round of introductory meetings with local officials, regulators, and community stakeholders, a process he described as “far more complex than launching rockets into space.”
“At least on Mars, once you land, you can start building,” Musk said. “Here, we’re still trying to determine who needs to be in the meeting about scheduling the next meeting.”
Sources say the project has already entered a “preliminary pre-diligence alignment phase,” which includes identifying all interested parties, mapping utility lines installed sometime before Katrina, and determining which consultant will be hired to study whether the tunnel should be studied.
City leaders welcomed Musk’s investment, calling it a “transformational opportunity,” while also noting the importance of “ensuring every voice is heard repeatedly over the next decade.”
At press time, SpaceX confirmed the Mars timeline remains unchanged, with the New Orleans tunnel expected to follow shortly after its third feasibility study is completed sometime in 2047.
