NEW ORLEANS, LA – New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell ordered the removal of banners celebrating Mayor-elect Helena Moreno this week, explaining that the displays sent an inappropriate and misleading message to residents, primarily that change was on the horizon.
“These banners make it look like I’m f**king done,” Cantrell said. “I’m not f**king done. I’m still the f**king mayor. I’m still running this f**king shit. Take that shit down, yall bitch ass hoes.”
According to City Hall, the banners were removed after concerns they created a premature sense of transition and suggested the city was preparing to move forward before the current administration was finished doing things its way.
“You don’t just start advertising the next f**king thing while I’m still here,” Cantrell added. “That’s some f**king disrespectful f**king shit. I didn’t say put that shit up. I didn’t approve that shit. So yeah, it’s coming down.”
Sources inside City Hall said the banners risked creating expectations, optimism, and comparisons, all of which officials described as unnecessary distractions during the final stretch of the mayor’s term.
Moreno’s transition team responded calmly, saying they believed the banners were meant to acknowledge the election outcome, not rush the process. They added that they respect the city’s desire to manage the transition carefully.
City officials confirmed the banners may be reconsidered at a later date, once the current administration concludes, emotions cool, and residents are properly eased into the idea that change eventually happens.
