LIVINGSTON, LA – Parish officials announced a major breakthrough in government transparency after a campaign mailer provided residents with the banking information necessary to personally participate in parish spending.
“For years, people have asked where their tax dollars are going,” said one official. “Now they can move them themselves.”
The mailer included unredacted parish checks, giving voters unprecedented access to information traditionally reserved for finance employees, bank representatives, and people committing wire fraud.
Officials confirmed the parish would replace its bank account, temporarily suspending the public’s ability to serve as assistant treasurer.
“This came right to my house,” one voter said. “Usually you have to submit a public records request before you can set up direct deposit.”
Council members have requested state reviews of the incident.
Meanwhile, officials assured taxpayers the replacement account would remain confidential until someone needs to win another election.
