BATON ROUGE, La. – Two major Baton Rouge news stations, which have interviewed the Spanish Town Mardi Gras royalty on the eve of the parade for over 30 years, explained their reason for skipping this year’s interview: they had already planned to be closed that day.
“We regret any confusion,” the stations said in a joint statement. “After careful discussion, our teams collectively agreed that the best explanation for skipping this year’s coverage would be simple: ‘We’ll be closed that day.’ We stand by this decision.”
The absence raised eyebrows, given that the Grand Marshal, Kiran Chawla, is a highly respected independent journalist and former employee of one of the stations. However, representatives assured the public that the decision had absolutely nothing to do with Chawla’s presence, stating, “We all just needed a break. You know, from reporting things.”
Sources confirm the stations will reopen just in time for their hard-hitting investigations into the Mayor of Bruly’s alleged misuse of a city credit card to buy beef jerky at an Addis Circle K.
The Spanish Town Mardi Gras Parade runs Saturday, March 1st at 12:00 Noon in Downtown Baton Rouge
