Baton Rouge Loop Once Again Being Considered Following Brief 40-Year Consideration Period

After a brief four-decade consideration period, officials say the Baton Rouge Loop is once again under consideration.

BATON ROUGE, LA – Louisiana officials confirmed Thursday that the Baton Rouge Loop is once again under consideration following a brief 40-year period during which the project was also under consideration.

Interest in the loop resurfaced after Wednesday’s traffic nightmare reminded local leaders that Baton Rouge still has approximately the same interstate system it had the last several dozen times they discussed building a loop.

“We’re still very early in the process,” one official said. “Ideally, we’d like to spend another 20 to 25 years determining whether we should begin seriously considering it.”

Officials say the next phase will likely include feasibility studies, public meetings, environmental studies, additional feasibility studies, and eventually a large binder containing all previous studies.

Residents are encouraged to remain patient, as transportation projects of this magnitude cannot be rushed.

If everything goes according to schedule, officials believe Baton Rouge could have a firm decision on whether to continue discussing the loop sometime around 2048.
