NEW ORLEANS, LA – Saints owner Gayle Benson reassured fans Sunday that she shares their frustration with the team’s losing start, although she has found being a billionaire takes some of the edge off.
“Believe me, these losses hurt,” Benson said. “But then I remember everyone paid me to get in, and I’m usually able to put things in perspective.”
Benson acknowledged that watching the Saints struggle has been especially difficult for supporters who purchased tickets, parking, concessions, and jerseys without receiving any ownership revenue afterward.
“I can’t imagine spending that kind of money to watch this,” she chuckled. “Fortunately, I don’t have to.”
Asked whether she would consider selling the team to someone committed to winning, Benson said she understood the concern but questioned changing a business model that appeared to be working.
The owner encouraged fans to remain patient, promising the organization would continue evaluating every aspect of the operation except the part where they pay her.
“We’re all invested in this,” Benson added. “Just in different directions.”
