Baton Rouge Man Attends So Many City Park Meetings He No Longer Has Time to Golf

He has preserved his right to play nine holes by spending every available afternoon in a public meeting.

BATON ROUGE, LA – Local golfer Gary Broussard confirmed Thursday he has successfully defended his right to play City Park’s nine-hole course at every available public meeting, leaving him no available time to play City Park’s nine-hole course.

“I used to get out there twice a week,” said Broussard, sorting public comment notes into a binder previously reserved for scorecards. “Now Tuesdays are stakeholder input, Thursdays are commission meetings, and Saturdays I review what they meant on Thursday.”

Broussard said he initially became involved to protect a relaxing hobby from unnecessary complications. He now understands project phasing, consultant contract amendments, and the distinction between accepting a master plan and approving anything in it.

His handicap remains unchanged because he has not submitted a score since the public engagement process began.

Friends recently invited him to play nine holes, but Broussard declined because a meeting about recreational access conflicted with his access to recreation.

“I’m doing this for future generations,” he said. “Apparently that’s who’ll have time to tee off.”
