WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Julia Letlow says she plans on introducing a bill requiring federal officials to spend one Friday afternoon on I-10 in Baton Rouge before being allowed to deny Louisiana requests for additional road funding.
Under the proposed legislation, federal transportation officials would enter I-10 shortly before 4 p.m. with a full tank of gas, a phone charger and absolutely nowhere important to be for the remainder of the evening.
“Washington has commissioned enough studies,” Letlow said. “I think sitting in typical I-10 traffic for four to six hours and only moving a quarter mile should provide all the data they need.”
Officials would be required to travel from one side of Baton Rouge to the other without exiting the interstate or approving emergency infrastructure funding from their vehicles.
The legislation has already drawn criticism from federal officials, who called the requirement unnecessarily cruel.
Letlow said the program could eventually expand to other federal agencies, with government-efficiency officials being assigned a full day at the Louisiana DMV.
