BATON ROUGE, LA – A Baton Rouge homeowner’s request to repaint his house its existing color was denied Monday after his HOA determined the proposed shade failed to reflect the neighborhood’s established appearance.
Resident Paul Broussard submitted a paint sample scraped directly from his garage, along with a photograph showing the color successfully being a house for fourteen years.
“We can’t just approve a color because it’s already the color on the house,” said architectural committee chair Karen Fontenot. “That would set a very dangerous precedent.”
The board requested additional photographs showing what the home would look like after remaining the same color.
Broussard then received a separate violation notice for peeling paint where he had removed the sample.
According to the association, his appeal will be considered at next month’s meeting, provided he submits the required processing fee and written acknowledgment that previous approval does not constitute approval.
Until then, Broussard has been instructed to restore the missing paint without painting anything.
“We’re protecting his investment,” Fontenot explained. “He keeps acting like it belongs to him.”
