BATON ROUGE, LA – Inspired by this weekend’s Freedom 250 Grand Prix through Washington, D.C., Gov. Jeff Landry announced Monday that Louisiana will host its own street race around the State Capitol featuring exclusively Nissan Altimas with expired Texas plates.
Landry said the Louisiana 250 will showcase the type of high-performance driving residents already experience daily on I-10.
“We considered IndyCars, but Louisiana already has thousands of Nissan Altimas doing 90-97 while changing four lanes at once,” Landry said. “It seemed wasteful to bring in professionals.”
To qualify, each Altima must have an expired Texas registration, no insurance (not even a fake policy screen shot on their phone), at least one donut spare tire on, and enough body damage to suggest several previous qualifying events.
The downtown course will include portions of North Third Street before circling the Capitol and returning through Spanish Town.
Officials initially planned several safety barriers but eliminated them after learning most Altima drivers consider those a challenge.
Landry said qualifying begins whenever enough of them accidentally line up at the same red light.
