BATON ROUGE, LA – A Baton Rouge father reportedly spent nearly 30 minutes attempting to convince his children that an enormous building in an old photograph of Ralph & Kacoo’s was, in fact, just a single restaurant.
“So the whole thing was Ralph & Kacoo’s?” asked 11-year-old Mason, studying the photo. “Like there wasn’t a hotel or an amusement park or something in there, dad?”
His father assured him there was not.
The children became increasingly skeptical after learning the massive seafood restaurant also contained enough nautical decorations, mounted fish, fishing nets and assorted maritime objects to furnish a small Bass Pro Shop or two.
“So you drove all the way there just to eat?” his daughter asked. “And you didn’t even have games?”
Their father attempted to explain that Baton Rouge restaurants once served as actual destinations, where families put on decent clothes, drove across town and spent an entire evening eating seafood beneath enough fishing equipment to outfit the Louisiana coast.
The children remained unconvinced, eventually concluding Ralph & Kacoo’s was probably a shopping mall that their father simply remembers incorrectly or was in early stages of dementia.
