CENTRAL, La. – Confused residents flooded 911 dispatchers with calls Saturday after witnessing a truly shocking sight: a construction worker actively working at the Sullivan Road widening project.
“I thought it was a prank or some kind of performance art,” said a longtime resident. “We’ve been driving past those cones for so long, I assumed they were part of the landscape.”
LADOTD insists the project is moving forward, though locals remain skeptical. Despite multiple budget approvals and revised completion dates, the road remains half-finished. Some speculate the project is an elaborate experiment to test driver patience, while others believe the barricades are now a permanent landmark.
Mayor Wade Evans reassured residents there was no reason to panic. “We ask everyone to remain calm while we investigate how this happened and ensure it doesn’t occur again.”
After verifying the worker’s credentials, the Central Police Chief acknowledged the public’s concern. “I get it—seeing actual progress on Sullivan Road is unsettling. We’ll keep an eye on the area to ensure this doesn’t become a trend.”
LADOTD supervisors are looking into the situation.
