BATON ROUGE, LA – The revived “We Play Baton Rouge” by Pat Shingleton will be opening with a challenge designed to test how closely contestants have followed the city’s development since the original game show aired in 1982: identify which vacant family restaurant will become the next vape shop.
Players will be asked to study photographs of three buildings featuring oversized parking lots, faded awnings and the unmistakable roofline of a place that once brought children crayons.
The first round is expected to end in a three-way tie since everyone will likely guess “all of them.”
Producers say the updated format rewards local knowledge, including identifying intersections from how many burnout marks there are in the center, naming businesses by whatever occupied the building in 1994, and figuring out street names by simply seeing photographs of its three largest potholes.
“We wanted something the whole family could enjoy,” Shingleton explained. “Much like the businesses that used to be there.”
