OXFORD, MS – Ole Miss officials are denying allegations that a Rebels fan received outside assistance before successfully spelling “Come To The Sip” during a flight over Louisiana this week.
Questions surfaced shortly after the pilot’s flight path revealed the four-word message with every word spelled correctly, prompting immediate speculation that someone else may have been involved.
“We have reviewed the flight and remain confident this was accomplished independently,” an Ole Miss spokesperson said. “At this time, we have found no evidence of a tutor, spellcheck or LSU graduate being present in the cockpit.”
University officials acknowledged the achievement was unusual but cautioned against assuming academic misconduct simply because an Ole Miss fan correctly spelled several consecutive words.
Investigators are reportedly reviewing the pilot’s flight plan, text messages and recent dictionary activity to determine whether he had access to unauthorized assistance.
Ole Miss said the pilot remains in good standing while the review continues.
School officials added that successfully spelling “Louisiana” would have triggered an automatic investigation.
