BATON ROUGE, LA – Encouraged by a growing number of court rulings allowing former professional athletes to return to college sports, LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has reportedly filed an emergency injunction seeking the immediate return of Joe Burrow.
Kiffin’s attorneys argue Burrow’s six seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals should not count against his collegiate eligibility because the NFL is technically “not the NCAA.”
“The precedent is becoming pretty clear,” an LSU spokesman said. “If you’ve played professionally, apparently the first thing you should do is call us.”
Kiffin became interested after learning Burrow probably still has his access card for the football ooperation facility and would require very little training.
Sources say LSU is also reviewing the eligibility of Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson after attorneys advised the school that, at this point, there’s really no harm in asking.
Burrow has not commented on the filing, though LSU officials remain confident a judge can have him enrolled by Wednesday morning and on the practice field by Thursday afternoon.
