BATON ROUGE, LA – Following his absence from Friday’s congressional debate, Blake Miguez’s campaign requested that future Baton Rouge debates be held in New Iberia, citing the importance of making political events accessible to candidates who don’t live near the people they hope to represent.
“We’re disappointed organizers chose a location convenient only for the district’s residents,” a campaign spokesperson said. “Blake shouldn’t have to leave his community just to explain how deeply connected he is to theirs.”
The campaign proposed a New Iberia venue with ample parking, easy access from Miguez’s primary residence, and a backdrop featuring a photograph of Baton Rouge.
Organizers were also asked to reimburse travel expenses whenever Miguez is required to meet his prospective constituents in person.
“This campaign is about bringing government closer to the people,” the spokesperson added. “Specifically, closer to Blake.”
As a compromise, Miguez offered to attend the next debate in Baton Rouge if voters agreed to pick him up and have him home before bedtime.
