LOS ANGELES, CA – After another week of ballot counting, projections, updates, revised projections, and updates to those revised projections, Los Angeles election officials announced Monday that the term “Election Night” would be officially retired and replaced with “Election Season.”
Officials said the change was necessary because the phrase “Election Night” no longer accurately reflects an event that now spans multiple weeks and includes enough twists and turns to justify its own promotional schedule.
“At this point, calling it a night feels misleading,” said one county spokesperson. “We’re currently entering Week Two of Election Season and expect several exciting ballot-counting matchups before the standings are finalized.”
Under the new format, residents can look forward to a Midseason Ballot Report, Outstanding Mail-In Ballot Week, the Final Projection Invitational, and the highly anticipated Ballot Count Championship Weekend.
Local businesses have reportedly begun adapting. Several sports bars have added election standings to television screens, while residents have started discussing remaining ballot totals using playoff terminology.
County officials say they are also considering the introduction of Election Season merchandise, commemorative programs, and a postseason awards banquet honoring outstanding ballot counters.
Several residents admitted they could no longer remember who they voted for but remained committed to following the standings.
