BATON ROUGE, LA – Following another potential special legislative session focused on New Orleans, sources inside the Governor’s Office say the Landry administration has quietly begun exploring whether France might be interested in taking the city back.
Officials stressed the discussions are still in the preliminary stages and would require extensive legal review, though one staff attorney has reportedly already begun searching the original Louisiana Purchase documents for words like “return policy,” “exchange,” and “manufacturer’s warranty.”
“Nobody’s saying we’re giving it away,” one aide clarified. “We’re just seeing if France would like to reassume ownership of one historically significant municipality with a complicated governmental structure.”
French officials reportedly listened politely before asking whether the offer included the dozens of courts, boards, commissions and ongoing lawsuits currently attached to the city. After a brief pause, they responded with a simple, “We’ll have to get back to you.”
As of Sunday, state attorneys were still unable to determine whether the Louisiana Purchase included a 223-year satisfaction guarantee.
