BATON ROUGE, LA – City officials announced this week that they are working on a redesign of City Park golf course that will “seamlessly integrate” with the ongoing LSU Lakes project, a development currently entering what leaders describe as its “next long-term phase.”
According to planners, the new course layout will be built with flexibility in mind, allowing golfers to play around active construction zones for the foreseeable future. Early designs include widened fairways to accommodate heavy equipment and designated waiting areas for when excavation crews temporarily occupy greens.
“We didn’t want two major projects happening independently for decades,” one official explained. “This way, residents can experience both at the same time.”
Golfers expressed mild concern but were reassured the course would remain fully operational, aside from occasional pauses for drainage work, shoreline adjustments, and “unpredictable multi-year enhancements.”
Officials added the project ensures City Park will remain aligned with the LSU Lakes 35-year completion timeline, which they described as “ambitious, evolving, and not bound by traditional expectations of efficiency.”
