NEW YORK, NY – The WNBA announced Monday that incoming players will now be required to complete a 20-minute driving test as league officials continue working to clarify player eligibility standards.
Under the new procedure, prospects will be handed the keys to a midsize SUV and instructed to navigate a shopping center containing several tight parking spaces, a Starbucks drive-thru and at least one unnecessarily high curb.
Upon returning, league officials will immediately inspect all four wheels.
“We’re looking for clear, measurable evidence,” a WNBA spokesperson said. “If you come back with four pristine rims, we’re probably going to need some additional information.”
According to league officials, minor curb rash will satisfy the initial requirement, while completely mounting the curb during a three-point turn will result in immediate eligibility.
Prospects who strike the curb while parallel parking and then continue backing up as if nothing happened will automatically advance to the front of the draft.
The league emphasized that the test remains experimental.
“We’re still developing the science,” the spokesperson said. “But this is the most confident we’ve been in weeks.”
