BATON ROUGE, LA – Former LSU head coach Brian Kelly has reportedly sent a cease-and-desist letter to the university demanding that current and future coaches refrain from blaming players following every loss, claiming the practice is an important part of his LSU legacy.
The request comes amid renewed discussion over what former Tigers can reasonably claim as their own after Jayden Daniels’ family objected to LSU reissuing his No. 5 jersey.
According to sources, Kelly believes publicly questioning execution, preparation and player performance immediately after a loss became closely associated with his time as head coach and should be treated accordingly.
“Obviously there are traditions at LSU that deserve to be protected,” Kelly reportedly wrote. “If the quarterback misses a throw, the secondary gives up 400 yards or special teams collapses, there’s a certain way you explain that.”
LSU officials are reviewing the request.
Lane Kiffin has reportedly agreed to respect Kelly’s legacy and will instead accept responsibility for losses until boosters demand he stop.
