BATON ROUGE, LA – As Louisiana transportation officials consider requiring big rigs to remain in the right lane on portions of Interstate 12, a new study has found that 94% of local drivers already believe every vehicle on the road should stay in the right lane, except for their own.
Researchers surveyed commuters across the I-12 corridor and discovered overwhelming agreement that traffic congestion is caused entirely by other people.
“We found that every driver has a very specific definition of who belongs in each lane,” said one researcher. “Oddly enough, they always place themselves in the correct one.”
The study found strong support for keeping trucks in the right lane despite frequent complaints that the same lane is constantly disrupted by motorists attempting to merge into 75 mph traffic at a comfortable 45 mph.
Respondents identified trucks, slow drivers, fast drivers, distracted drivers, and anyone with out-of-state plates as major traffic problems. Not a single participant listed themselves.
Researchers concluded that Louisiana drivers remain united by one core belief: traffic would improve immediately if everyone else would simply learn how to drive.
