BATON ROUGE, LA – BREC officials unveiled a compromise plan for City-Brooks Park, promising the proposal contains something for every resident to angrily oppose.
The plan preserves the golf course by shortening it, expands walking trails for citizens fleeing public meetings, and nearly doubles parking so roughly 600 people can complain simultaneously.
“We listened to both sides and developed a solution neither requested,” a BREC spokesperson said. “That is what compromise looks like.”
The six-phase project combines portions of the Big Loop, the Stitch and the McMakin Plan, allowing three separate arguments to continue under one nine-figure master document.
Golf supporters remain concerned about losing the fourth green, while park advocates question a price tag reaching $125 million. Officials reassured both groups that construction should last long enough for future generations to inherit the dispute.
The commission will consider the plan after a public meeting, assuming Baton Rouge does not produce a fourth proposal, two lawsuits and a competing citizens’ committee before then.
