Proposed Bill Requires DOTD to Repurpose Existing Potholes for I-12 Wall Drainage

BATON ROUGE, LA – In response to ongoing concerns surrounding the Interstate 12 concrete median barrier in Livingston Parish, Louisiana lawmakers have introduced a proposal asking the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to explore relocating several existing interstate potholes directly into the wall to improve drainage capacity.

Supporters of the measure say the state already possesses one of the nation’s largest inventories of potholes, making the project both cost effective and environmentally friendly.

“This isn’t about creating new holes,” one lawmaker explained. “It’s about utilizing the holes Louisiana taxpayers have already invested in over the years.”

Under the proposal, DOTD engineers would identify high-performing potholes from heavily traveled highways and carefully transfer them into sections of the I-12 barrier where lack of water flow has become a concern.

Residents in several parishes have already voiced concern that removing too many potholes at once could accidentally improve driving conditions and create confusion among local motorists.
