BAKER, La – In a groundbreaking ceremony held suspiciously close to a rising drainage canal, developers celebrated the approval of a massive new subdivision on Comite Drive by unveiling plans for the neighborhood’s first official Canoe Club.
“We wanted to create a true sense of community — the kind that can only be forged while paddling past each other’s rooftops,” said project a spokesperson, standing on a soggy patch of grass already showing signs of future bayou development.
City leaders praised the initiative, noting that the Canoe Club would offer family-friendly activities like timed roof-to-roof relays, mail retrieval by kayak, and competitive driveway docking.
Residents concerned about additional flooding were assured that the subdivision’s “natural drainage plan” would allow water to freely enter homes, creating a seamless indoor/outdoor experience.
“We’re not just building houses,” the spokesman said. “We’re building memories… preferably waterproof ones.”
Membership in the Canoe Club will be complimentary for all new homeowners. Future residents are encouraged to attend the subdivision’s first ‘Sandbag and Sangria’ social, where new neighbors can bond over drinks, flood maps, and limited hope.
