New Orleans Assures Homeowners Higher Taxes Will Help Maintain Current Level of Disappointment

Homeowners are being asked to pay more so nothing has to change.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – City officials assured homeowners Thursday that higher property taxes will provide the funding necessary to preserve the level of disappointment residents have come to expect.

The increase follows a comprehensive review showing that delivering the same unsatisfactory services now costs considerably more than it did when people first complained about them.

“This is about protecting what we have,” a City Hall spokesperson said. “The pothole outside your house did not become part of the neighborhood overnight.”

Officials warned that without additional revenue, residents could experience unfamiliar problems instead of the reliable collection of unresolved issues they have already organized their lives around.

The new funding will support continued explanations, updated timelines and the personnel required to tell callers their concerns have been forwarded to the appropriate department.

Homeowners were encouraged to view the increase as an investment in consistency.

The city also confirmed that residents who pay early will receive no additional services, but will have more time to wonder where their money went.
