BATON ROUGE, LA – As LSU expands resources to investigate a growing number of AI-related cheating cases, one student accused of using ChatGPT reportedly filed a strongly worded appeal denying the allegation, according to a professionally formatted document generated by ChatGPT.
LSU officials recently acknowledged the university is dealing with enough AI cheating cases that additional resources have been dedicated to handling investigations and appeals. One student appears determined to make sure those resources stay busy.
His three-page appeal insists he has “never utilized artificial intelligence in any capacity inconsistent with university academic standards,” a sentence he reportedly came up with naturally while sitting in his dorm eating Raising Cane’s.
“I would never use AI to do my schoolwork,” the student said after asking ChatGPT to make the statement sound less defensive.
Professors became suspicious after the appeal included flawless grammar and a concluding paragraph beginning, “In conclusion, the evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates…”
The student denied those were signs of AI assistance and submitted a second statement explaining that he has always written like a 47-year-old corporate attorney.
He has reportedly asked ChatGPT to draft his next appeal.
