OXFORD, MS – ESPN announced College GameDay will head to Oxford for LSU’s September 19 matchup against Ole Miss, giving the network a rare opportunity to watch 65,000 people demonstrate just how completely they’ve moved on from Lane Kiffin.
Ole Miss fans say Kiffin’s return is really no big deal anymore, which is why they’ve spent the last several months discussing it constantly, designing signs about him and circling the game on their calendars.
“We barely even think about the guy,” said one Rebels fan who had already purchased a custom T-shirt featuring Kiffin’s face, LSU logo and several words unsuitable for television or this article.
ESPN officials reportedly selected the matchup after determining that college football’s two most reliable television products remain rivalry games and unresolved conflict.
LSU fans are also expected to travel heavily to Oxford, primarily to support the Tigers but also because watching someone else get angry at your head coach is one of the underrated benefits of stealing him.
Ole Miss fans insist they’ll treat Kiffin exactly like any other visiting coach, just louder and with more tears.
