Central Surfers Protest on Hooper Road, Tell Wade Evans He Can’t Leave Until The Lake is Done

1. Central surfers offered to help Wade Evans pack his office immediately after somebody actually gets to surf.

CENTRAL, LA – Dozens of surfers lined Hooper Road Friday to inform Mayor Wade Evans that leaving office this year would require first completing the surf lake they had built their personalities around.

Carrying boards and signs reading “WAVES, NOT EXCUSES,” protesters said they would not recognize the end of his term until somebody caught a wave.

“You don’t get to retire from building a lake while it’s still grass,” said one organizer, who has worn board shorts to every public meeting since the project was announced.

He said residents had spent years buying equipment, growing out their hair and referring to Greenwell Springs as “the mainland.”

Several protesters accused Evans of allowing them to become the kind of people who say “gnarly” in a Tractor Supply with no way to justify it.

The group offered to help pack his office once the lake opened.

“There’s still time,” Evans said, a statement protesters found reassuring until he asked whether anyone had a shovel.
