LOBDELL, LA – In what law enforcement is calling a “low-speed pursuit,” a man driving a stolen school bus led deputies on a chase through multiple parishes including West Baton Rouge this week—arriving at every intersection shockingly on time.
The School Board has already requested footage from the buses camera to study how the suspect managed to get the bus through traffic on LA 1 at the Intracoastal without being 45 minutes behind schedule. “He made it across three parishes with no mechanical failures, no driver shortages, and no inexplicable 22-minute pauses at gas stations,” said one official. “We’re just trying to learn from him.”
Witnesses said the suspect—identified as a 32-year-old from Denham Springs—drove with both caution and confidence, even using his turn signal at every intersection. “We honestly thought it was a substitute driver,” said one confused parent.
DOTD officials, meanwhile, have not ruled out hiring the man to consult on transportation reliability. “He’s clearly mastered something we haven’t,” said a spokesman.
Officials say the bus will be returned to its regular route next week, where it is expected to immediately resume running 40 minutes late.
