BATON ROUGE, La. – In an unprecedented turn of events, Baton Rouge experienced a full 24-hour period without any reported shootings, carjackings, or pedestrian-involved vehicular incidents, according to Baton Rouge Police Chief Thomas “TJ” Morse.

Morse, who has led the department since January 2024, expressed cautious optimism regarding the unusual milestone. “While we are encouraged by this 24-hour period of reduced incidents, we recognize that one day does not indicate a trend,” he said. “Our officers remain committed to proactive policing strategies and community engagement to ensure the safety of all residents.”
City officials and law enforcement agencies are analyzing the factors that may have contributed to this 24-hour respite, including recent community outreach programs and increased patrols in high-crime areas. Chief Morse emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between law enforcement and the community to build upon this positive outcome.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as BRPD continues its efforts to maintain and improve public safety.
