NEW ORLEANS, La. – New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has filed a lawsuit against the city, alleging that the recent travel restrictions placed on her have subjected her to unbearable conditions—namely, having to experience Mardi Gras like an average resident.

“I am a high-ranking public servant, not some bead-chasing peasant,” Cantrell stated in the filing. “Being forced to remain in the city during an event this chaotic is a clear violation of my human rights.”
The lawsuit outlines grievous hardships, including exposure to loud brass bands, unfiltered citizen complaints, and the horror of standing in a line like everyone else. But Cantrell argues the biggest injustice is being forced to endure Mardi Gras in the middle of a near-hurricane.
“With the incoming storms, I should be somewhere dry—preferably in first class, heading to Europe,” Cantrell lamented. “Instead, I have to navigate 60 mph winds like some kind of common street performer.”
In response, the City Council suggested a compromise: they’ll allow her to leave immediately—as long as she promises not to come back.
