BATON ROUGE, La – Representative Selders was arrested in August 2022 for reckless driving, DWI, and driving under suspension. Now, he’s running on a platform to protect young men’s right to do burnouts, drive with a suspended license, and enjoy “alcohol-assisted precision driving” without government interference.
Selders says Louisiana’s traffic laws unfairly target car enthusiasts. “Just because a guy has a few too many drinks, a suspended license and decides to participate in an intersection takeover with a few dozen other Dodge Charger ‘owners’ doesn’t mean he should be treated like a criminal,” he told supporters at a campaign event—hosted at an undisclosed intersection recently.
His “Freedom to Burn Out Act” would legalize burnouts, reduce penalties for driving under suspension, and establish “designated intoxicated driving zones” at low-traffic intersections for Dodge Charger and Challenger drivers.
Selders said he is also willing to discuss decriminalizing the theft of other supercharged Chrysler-made vehicles in hopes of one day fulfilling his dream of owning a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk on a politician’s salary.
