BATON ROUGE, LA – The NCAA has reportedly launched an investigation following LSU women’s basketball’s 159-31 victory over UNT Dallas after concerns surfaced that the visiting team may not have realized the game had officially started.
The investigation began when officials noticed LSU had scored 78 points by halftime while UNT Dallas appeared to still be participating in pregame warmups.
“We’re reviewing footage to determine whether both teams were informed this was an actual basketball game,” an NCAA spokesperson allegedly explained. “At this point, we’re confident LSU received the notification.”
LSU coach Kim Mulkey dismissed concerns, insisting her team simply executed its game plan against an opponent that occasionally wandered into defensive positions.
Investigators are also examining whether UNT Dallas mistakenly believed the scoreboard was displaying cumulative season statistics.
NCAA officials reportedly became suspicious when LSU scored another basket and several visiting players looked toward the scorer’s table as though someone had accidentally restarted the clock.
The investigation is expected to conclude once officials determine whether UNT Dallas has been notified that the game is over.
