BATON ROUGE, LA – After months of studies, public meetings and approximately $640,000 in planning expenses, BREC officials have unveiled a groundbreaking discovery about City-Brooks Community Park: it could use some grass and additional parking.
The revelation was included in the final master plan presented this week, concluding an extensive process involving consultants, community feedback and enough renderings to successfully identify several previously undocumented patches of dirt.
“We wanted to make absolutely certain grass was the correct surface for a park,” one consultant explained. “There were several options on the table, including gravel, concrete and just leaving everything exactly like it was.”
The plan also recommends additional parking, confirming suspicions held for decades by anyone who has ever attempted to park near City Park.
BREC Officials emphasized the $640,000 process provided valuable insight that simply driving past the property apparently could not.
BREC commissioners will now review the recommendations before determining whether Baton Rouge is financially prepared to enter the grass-and-parking phase of the project.
