BATON ROUGE, LA – A routine Saturday morning cleanup took an unexpected turn when Keep Tiger Town Beautiful volunteers stopped to assist what they believed was a homeless man wandering near College Drive, only to discover they had been helping Clemson’s mascot.
Jennifer Richardson of KTTB said volunteers spotted the Clemson Tiger looking disheveled, confused and badly in need of a shower and immediately shifted into outreach mode.
“We gave him some water, breakfast and information about local shelters,” Richardson said. “He didn’t say much. He just took everything.”
The mistake wasn’t discovered until an LSU fan recognized the Tiger and explained that he was Clemson’s official mascot and apparently supposed to look like that.
Richardson said volunteers were embarrassed but stood behind their decision.
“When you see somebody wandering around Baton Rouge looking like that at 8:00 on a Saturday morning, you help first and ask questions later,” she said.
The Tiger reportedly kept the breakfast and asked if anyone had jumper cables.
