SLIDELL, LA – Organizers of Saturday’s Governor Jeff Landry recall signing event proudly announced a record turnout after a UPS driver briefly stopped to ask for directions, creating what witnesses described as the largest crowd the event had seen all afternoon.
Volunteers quickly gathered around the delivery truck, with several reportedly assuming the driver had arrived to sign the petition before learning he was simply trying to locate a new subdivision that wasn’t on his GPS yet.
“Things really picked up around 11:30,” one organizer said while gesturing toward a parking lot that still had significantly more empty spaces than people. “For a few glorious minutes, we honestly thought momentum was building.”
The driver’s unexpected arrival prompted one of the organizers to scramble for a camera, carefully positioning herself so the brown truck occupied as much of the background as possible for a group selfie which would later be used to show off their success.
Several attendees admitted the brief interaction was the busiest the event had been, with one volunteer describing it as “our lunchtime rush.”
Organizers later thanked the UPS driver for “believing in the democratic process,” despite acknowledging he had only wanted to know which street to turn on.
