BATON ROUGE – A widespread Facebook outage Thursday reportedly left thousands of Baton Rouge Rants & Raves members with no way to post complaints online, forcing many to deliver their opinions directly to other human beings for the first time in years.
Witnesses reported seeing confused residents wandering neighborhoods in search of someone, anyone to complain to after discovering their favorite local Facebook group was temporarily unavailable.
“I had a post typed up asking why there were three police cars on Airline Highway,” said one resident. “When Facebook wouldn’t load, I just started asking random people at Rouses.”
The outage reportedly created chaos throughout the parish as residents struggled to find alternative outlets for complaints about traffic, suspicious vehicles, barking dogs, and neighbors whose grass appeared to be approaching HOA violation territory.
Several residents were observed standing in their driveways attempting to recreate comment threads by shouting opinions across the street. One man reportedly spent nearly 20 minutes showing Ring camera footage of a mysterious Nissan Altima to passing motorists while demanding identification assistance.
Others resorted to handwritten notes taped to refrigerators, including status updates such as “Gunshots or fireworks?” and “Anyone else’s Cox internet out?”
By the time Facebook service was restored, officials said most residents immediately returned indoors and resumed arguing from the safety of their keyboards.
“We were worried people might get used to speaking face-to-face,” said one local observer. “Thankfully the outage ended before any lasting damage was done.”
