BATON ROUGE, LA – Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry reportedly adjusted her Wednesday schedule this coming week, reserving an eight-minute window to review the signatures submitted in the effort to recall Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards.
State officials said they began scaling back their original review plans after the recall campaign’s well-publicized first month, when organizers celebrated collecting just 10 signatures. While supporters have insisted momentum picked up considerably since then, election workers remain confident the submission can still be reviewed somewhere between a morning coffee refill and the first staff meeting.
“We like to be prepared for every scenario,” one staff member explained. “If the stack turns out to be thicker than expected, we’ve also got a nine-minute opening after lunch.”
Recall organizers remained optimistic, insisting thousands of additional signatures were “still out there somewhere,” possibly inside unopened junk mail, beneath couch cushions, or among the hundreds of residents who said they supported the effort but were “definitely going to sign next weekend.”
Election officials stressed that every signature would receive the same careful review regardless of how many ultimately arrive, adding that Wednesday’s verification is still expected to conclude before anyone has time to ask whether the campaign ever recovered from its celebrated 10-signature first month.
