BATON ROUGE, LA – The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a suspicious email from a Nigerian prince involving a 55-gallon drum of diesel as part of a massive overseas inheritance.
According to investigators, the email claims Prince Adebayo Oluwafemi Adekunle recently inherited the drum but cannot access it due to “international banking complications.”
Recipients are promised 10 gallons of the diesel for providing their banking information and paying a small $5,900 processing fee.
Authorities said the offer has generated unusual interest.
“Normally people delete these emails immediately,” said one investigator. “But then they saw 55 gallons of diesel and started asking questions.”
One resident reportedly contacted his accountant before responding to determine the tax implications of receiving 10 gallons of diesel.
The Sheriff’s Office says residents should remain skeptical of unsolicited inheritance emails, particularly when the inheritance contains enough diesel to immediately move someone into a higher tax bracket.
