BATON ROUGE, LA – Facing multiple rapidly approaching recall petition deadlines, a local recall organizer announced this week that any Louisiana resident who refuses to sign all three of her active recall petitions may soon find themselves the subject of a recall effort as well.
The organizer, who is currently pursuing recalls against Mayor-President Sid Edwards, Governor Jeff Landry, and Attorney General Liz Murrill, said she is growing increasingly concerned by residents who continue asking unnecessary questions such as “What is this for?” and “How exactly does a citizen get recalled?”
“At this point, if you’re not signing recall petitions, you’re part of the problem,” she reportedly told a group of shoppers while attempting to collect signatures outside a grocery store.
Witnesses say residents are now being presented with a three-page recall packet and asked to sign before hearing the details. Those who decline are allegedly placed on what campaign volunteers describe as a “future recall list.”
Political analysts say the strategy marks a natural evolution of Louisiana’s recall movement.
“Historically, recalls targeted elected officials,” explained one LSU political scientist. “Now we’re seeing recalls expand into friends, neighbors, relatives, and anyone who makes prolonged eye contact with a recall signature collector.”
Sources say organizers are already exploring a fourth petition targeting residents who signed only two of the three existing petitions, describing their level of commitment as “deeply concerning.”
Several Baton Rouge residents reported being approached multiple times in a single day and were forced to clarify that signing one recall petition does not automatically enroll them in the organizer’s entire recall portfolio.
