LAFAYETTE, La. – Texas-based mega gas station chain Buc-ee’s has announced plans to build an $82 million travel center in Lafayette, leading Louisiana officials to wonder if they can get in on some of that sweet, sweet funding.

“With a budget like that, they could probably pave every road in Baton Rouge twice,” said one state official, glancing at the state’s crumbling infrastructure with envy. “Maybe we can convince them to throw in a couple of bridges while they’re at it.”
The new location will feature 120 gas pumps, spotless bathrooms, and more brisket sandwiches than the Louisiana Department of Transportation has completed projects in the last decade. Meanwhile, local leaders are scrambling to see if Buc-ee’s expansion budget could somehow be funneled into public works.
At this point, Louisiana lawmakers are considering appointing Buc-ee’s as the new head of state infrastructure—because at least they know how to build something on time.
