BATON ROUGE, LA – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is warning hunters after uncovering what officials describe as a sophisticated statewide disinformation campaign involving deer using artificial intelligence to generate fake trail camera photos.
According to investigators, deer have been creating AI-generated images of massive trophy bucks and posting them in Louisiana hunting Facebook groups, deliberately sending hunters into neighboring parishes while they remain safely in their food plots.
“We first became suspicious when the same 18-point buck appeared on trail cameras in eleven different parishes on the same morning,” said one wildlife official. “One of the photos even had six legs.”
Officials believe the operation is being coordinated by a group of mature bucks in West Feliciana Parish who have reportedly established several fake Facebook accounts and begun purchasing sponsored posts targeting Louisiana hunters.
LDWF is urging hunters to carefully examine trail camera photos before traveling.
Officials say the investigation took an unexpected turn after discovering several deer had also begun selling online hunting courses for $49.99.
